Alternative Ways to Make Money during Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic has surely turned the world upside down. Gone are the days (for now) where you can freely roam the streets unabated.

A new norm is forming – self isolation, wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, staying home. With this scenario facing all of us, how can we survive? Let alone fend for ourselves as millions upon millions have lost their job just this April.

What can one do when his very survival depends on being able to make ends meet? Can we depend on the government until this pandemic is gone?

The situation is dire.

But when the going gets rough, the tough gets going so they say.

So how can one make money without violating protocols set by the government? Here are some suggestions.

Making Money to Survive

Be a Neighborhood Courier

If you own a bike, scooter, roller blades, long-board, or any wheeled vehicle, you can create a Facebook page advertising your services.

Since not everyone can go out, you can volunteer to be that person to do various liaison for your village or area. You can run errands like buy groceries, pay bills, or go after lost pets all for a fee of course and most importantly, wear a mask and disinfect with a carry-on alcohol always.

Participate in a Facebook Market Group in your Area

Participating in a localized market group can be a good source of much wanted funds. So what will you sell? Anything and everything that you think will be of value during these times. Used clothes, kitchenware, tools, toys, shoes etc. The list goes on and on. The key is uploading great clear images of your product plus a truthful product description.

Sell Home Cooked Meals

Who can’t resist home cooked meals especially when they’re served hot? You can send out your menu flyers complete with contact details around your neighborhood at a really affordable price.

You can also sell baked goodies like oatmeal cookies, brownies, apple pie etc,.

There are indeed a lot of ways to make a living amidst this pandemic. But make sure that you are protected at all times when you go out. Observe proper social distancing, wear a face mask at all times and bring your alcohol to wash your hands.

Working From Home – The New Normal

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a damp on all known human outdoor activity for god-knows when. Like as of this moment, we are all stuck in the confines of our homes.

Now if you’re still one of the few who is fortunately working from home, expect to have a regular team meeting or even a daily huddle as a means of keeping in touch, being informed on the organization’s latest updates and lastly keeping your sanity intact via socialization albeit virtual.

With this prospect in mind, I’d like to offer some cool tips on what to do whenever a virtual company meeting is called for.

Virtual Group Meetings 101

Have Sufficient Lighting

Be sure to have ample and sufficient lighting to enable colleagues to see you and not just your silhouette. If possible, position yourself where the window is in front and not in the back. This is to ensure that your face is clearly seen.

Dress Appropriately

Sure working from home allows a lot of flexibility as far as dress code is concerned, you can wear your everyday clothes or even work in your jammies BUT please dress appropriately during video meetings as some companies require an actual visage and not just an avatar.

Pay Attention

If your organization requires that you turn on your webcam, then be sure to have your full attention on the meeting. Don’t multitask as this would probably be a distraction and would result in you missing some important details, announcement or the like.

It will also be disrespectful to the host when your focus is not 100% in the meeting but in some other tasks you are simultaneously doing or even checking on your social media accounts.

Avoid Distractions

Eliminate possible distractions that may occur during the meeting. These can range from noise from dogs barking, music playing too loud or even those adorable kids tugging at your headset or peaking every now and then.

It’s prudent to ascertain that you’re working from the comforts of your room or find a place where it is not easily accessible and prone to unnecessary distractions. Basement anyone?

While working from home allows certain comforts, it’s also important to still have the business-like air about it as to avoid making the familiar too familiar.
